How Often Should You Post on Social Media? What are the Best Times to Post in 2020?

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

Has a company you follow online ever inundated your feed so many times per day that you hide their content, or much worse, unfollow them completely? Maybe a brand you love doesn't post enough one week, and posts nonstop the next. Your brand can be making these same mistakes.

Your brand has to find that sweet spot: not bombarding your audience but also not leaving them high and dry. Erratic posting can cost your brand its audience loyalty, lessening its integrity. Using a Social Media Calendar can help layout your content and provide a time your content will post.

Of course, deciding how often and at what time you should post depends on which platforms your brand is using. Facebook only needs one post per day, whereas Twitter thrives off of up to 30 per day! I've created a cheat sheet for your brand to use to get started! Don't worry if you don't have enough content to post at first. It's much better to post less with great quality content than it is to post more with less quality.

Building a Media Reserve to have at the ready and using free resources help to ensure your brand has enough imagery and copy to post at any given time to meet the daily quota for optimization. More on that in another post!

Studying public relations, working with many clients and having to navigate the algorithm of the many social media platforms and managing multiple accounts, I've learned what each platform needs and when most active audiences are online.
